Moon Landing:
Come in collect a worksheet and a pencil and do not share your personal answers yet!
Each person will complete the worksheet on their own under the heading “My ranking.”
After everyone is finished, you will be divided into teams and the teams will then work together and come to a consensus. In other words, EACH member of the team MUST agree to the ranking order of all 15 of the items. Each of you will then write the new ranking under the heading “Team ranking.”
I will share NASA’s results for you to tally your scores AFTER everyone is finished.
The scenario:
You are a space crew originally scheduled to rendezvous with a mother ship on the lighted surface of the moon. Due to mechanical difficulties, however, your ship was forced to land at a spot some 200 miles from the rendezvous point.
During re-entry and landing much of the equipment was damaged and, since survival depends on reaching the mother ship, the most critical items available must be chosen for the 200-mile trip.
The worksheets list the 15 items left intact and undamaged after landing. Your task is to rank order them in terms of their importance in allowing your crew to reach the rendezvous point.
Place the number “1” by the MOST important item, the number “2” by the SECOND most important, and so on through number “15”, the LEAST important.
Once again, I will share NASA’s results for you to tally your scores AFTER everyone is finished completing both sides of the worksheet.

K-3 Teachers:
If the link above does not work for your students, can you please have your students take this quiz from your Seesaw and then let me know if it worked!?!
The data should be auto collected in my Google Form if they use the link to the Google form.
I did not require them to sign in to Google to use it.

Group members are to rank the objects individually (–10 min) and then in groups (15 min.). In the group part of the exercise, all groups will be instructed to employ the method of group consensus, which requires each group member to agree upon the rankings for each of the 15 survival items before the item becomes a part of the group decision (e.g., Hall and Watson, 1970). Instructors should ensure that students interact only within groups and no cross-talking occurs between groups.
After revealing the correct answers and allowing teams to calculate their scores, record the team score and the lowest individual score from each team. Subtract the team score from the individual score; this provides the “synergy” score. Ask the students in the teams with negative synergy scores why they think their team performed as it did. Then ask the teams with positive synergy scores why they think their teams performed well. Listen for evidence of good collaboration in the teams with positive synergy.

Moon Landing Scoring:
Scoring:
For each item, mark the number of points that your score differs from the NASA ranking, then add up all the points. Disregard plus or minus differences.
The lower the total, the better your score.
0 -25 excellent
26 -32 good
33 -45 average
46 -55 fair
56 -70 poor --suggests use of Earth-bound logic
71 -112 very poor – you’re one of the casualties of the space program!

My 2nd - 6th graders are learning
about internet safety!
Their project has to include at least 3 tips to teach a 5 year-old or an even younger child how to stay safe on the internet.
Some of the projects students chose to do at home for this assignment are a stop motion video, a flip book, a poster, a poem, a song, a diorama, or a skit.
*In class students will just write their 3 tips and draw pictures about each tip for their grade. *
I am impressed with how many students know at least 3 great tips for internet safety! They know to tell an adult when something makes them uncomfortable on the internet, and that they need STRONG passwords, and they know not to talk to strangers on the internet!
Here is a link to a good Child Safety Coloring Book that is filled with great tips for your family.
**Please note** The example projects submitted below are OPTIONAL!
Each student will be completing a list of 3 internet safety tips with 3 pictures - IN CLASS with me. That will be their graded project.
Any other projects submitted are completed by those who are motivated to try the other projects I have introduced, such as stop motion animation and flip book animation. These were submitted by learners who are motivated to try new things on their own!
If you want to have your project shown below, please send it to me and let me know if it's okay via email, text, or FB message.
Have fun!

Flipbooks!!!!
This weekend I plan to work on filming the loads of flipbooks students have been turning in.
Some of them have completed "Internet Safety" flipbooks, and some have been practicing with the challenge I presented in class.
I provided index cards for them to create a small flipbook with just a line, a dot, or a scribble, or a combination of all three! And as usual students were eager to take their learning further and try new things on their own. They have been learning from the flipbook Jedi Master! Andymation! Some have told me they bought his kit and now they have plans to make many more flipbooks!
So exciting! Keep up the great work Eagles!
